This blogging thing is certainly more difficult than I anticipated. Don’t get me wrong, I’m enjoying it but the more I learn the more I discover I don’t have a clue.
I’m not happy with the title of my journal. Jack’s Journal. Yes, it’s very ‘does what it says on the tin’ but I don’t feel it fits and I don’t know what else to call it. How do I go about choosing a name for this thing? Something that reflects who I am and what I’m writing about.
I’m not happy with the layout of this site. I like it enough but again I’m not entirely sure it reflects me same as the name.
Topics to post about. I have no idea what makes an interesting post. I’m pretty sure though that ‘Today I took the dog for a walk, read my book, watched some TV, ate dinner, had great sex, went to bed’ isn’t exactly exciting. I do read a lot and thought about maybe writing reviews but I have no idea how to write a book review.
So this is where I ask for your advice: How do I come up with a better name and how do I know what to write about?
Flying To The Stars 
Make a mental note of interesting words/phrases/lyrics you like and that seem to reflect you… jot them down. Write them out in different orders. Eventually something will click and you’ll go, “this is the name”.
As for the layout, just keep playing with different themes. Part of the fun of having a blog is changing the design up! 🙂

Thank you. I did just that and ended up with a title that I feel represents me and a layout I much prefer. Drove my girlfriend crazy with ‘how about this?’ for an entire afternoon but I’m much happier with it.

I would suggest writing about what really interests you. The blogs I like the most are written by folk who are into some hobbie or activity. It could be books, gardening, tropical fishkeeping, art, self-awareness, current affairs? In a pub quiz, which topic would you most like to get come up?
Some people do blogs about a range of things they are interested in and that’s great too/
Book reviews are always fun to read if you wanted to throw some of them in there. A simple format could be to write an introduction to the story so that people know what the book’s about, (you could include a picture of the book from the internet), then rate the book on things like character development, plot, ease of language. What was great about it, what left you wondering, what would you change if you were the author?
I think blogging is something you gradually find your way in – there’s not real right of wrong way to do it. Just play around and have some fun – you can always change your title when you get a feel for the direction you want to go in.

I think that your blog should represent you. So, first you can rethink what makes you happy and enjoy writing. Do it and have fun while doing it. As per your name, it’s fine with me since it’s all about you, but if you really want to change it, you should find an inspiration for it.

I occasionally do write book reviews on my blog and I still have no idea HOW to write one. Fairly sure mine are useless to anyone who actually wants to read the book 😉
My favourite blogs are the ones that have a range of topics and don’t just focus on one thing. I like to get an insight into people’s lives and I can’t really do that if every post is about one hobby. Maybe I’m just nosy? 😉
